How do I schedule or start a Zoom session?

  1. Go to https://michigantech.zoom.us and sign in with your ISO account. You only need to enter your username, do not put @mtu.edu after your username. From this screen, you can schedule a meeting for a future date/time. It will also reserve a “Personal Meeting Room” for you to send to whomever you would like to join the Zoom session (up to 50 participants, not including yourself).
  2. Click on "Schedule a New Meeting" and the following window will open:

You can enter a title, date, and length on the first screen for a meeting that only occurs once.  The length is not a limit.  In our example meeting, the meeting won’t automatically end 60 minutes after 8:00 AM. However, the meeting will not be available to start after 9:00 AM and will disappear from the main Zoom menu.

If you would like to reserve a meeting that reoccurs and/or has a flexible starting time, you can click the checkbox next to "Recurring Meeting” and the meeting will remain until you delete it from your scheduled meetings.

VIDEO: The video buttons will allow you to choose if you or attendees will have their web cameras (if connected) showing as soon as they join the meeting. The default is that both participants and the hosts of the meeting will have to turn on their web cameras.

AUDIO: The audio buttons will allow you to choose if participants can join in either by calling in from their telephone/conference phone, using a connected microphone or both. We strongly recommend leaving this option as the default of Both to allow participants the freedom to join in to the session in the way most convenient to them.

OTHER OPTIONS: The other options will allow you to personalize the meeting, either by setting a password users must enter to join the session, if participants can join before the host of the meeting, if participants are muted upon joining the sessions and if the meeting will be recorded. You can also set alternative hosts for meetings here. Anyone who has a Zoom account can be used has an alternative host to start the meeting if you are not able to. Enter their full email address to add one more people as alternative hosts.

To start a Meeting now

At any time you can start a meeting from the "Host a Meeting" drop down menu in the top right corner of the screen. You will be given the option to start a meeting with or without video (web camera). Any scheduled meetings will show up in the "My Meetings" tab on the left side of the screen that you can start at any time by clicking the Start button.

From there you will launch Zoom.
