How do I install campus printers on an off-domain Windows computer?

  1. Download the correct driver for your computer; links to drivers are at the end of this article.
  2. Extract the zip file containing the printer driver.

Installation Instructions

  1. Navigate to Devices and Printers.

  2. Click -> Add a printer.
  3. You get a prompt for the type of printer you want to install.
  4. Click -> Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer.
  5. Windows will start searching for available printers.


    Don't wait for it to finish scanning; click -> The printer that I want isn't listed.
  6. Provide printer URL.
  7. Choose -> Select a shared printer by name.
  8. Enter -> http://printing.it.mtu.edu:631/printers/husky-bw.
  9. Click -> Next. Windows will prompt you with a Add Printer Wizard to select your drivers.
  10. Click -> Have Disk. You will be prompted with a Install From Disk prompt.
  11. Click -> Browse. Navigate to the extracted drivers.
  12. Make sure x2DLUMX is selected.
  13. Click -> Open.
  14. Click -> OK When back in the Install From Disk prompt.
  15. Select the printer model.
  16. Select "Xerox WorkCentre 5865 PCL6."
  17. Click -> OK. You may get a prompt Claiming Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software; this is due to the custom configuration modified within the driver to apply our setting on setup.
  18. Click -> Install this driver software anyway. Success! You added Husky-bw.

 

Verify that the settings are correct.

  1. Right click on husky-bw.
  2. Click -> Printer properties.
  3. Go to the Configuration Tab and verify these settings:
  • Connection: Off
  • Paper Trays: 6 Trays (High Capacity Feeder and Tandem Trays)
  • Finisher: Office Finisher
  • Hole Punch Module: Installed
