What is Google's 2-step verification?

As a Google user, you can have confidence that your account is safe and secure by simply turning on a tool called two-step verification. Also known as two-factor authentication, it requires multiple factors to verify your account. In addition to the standard username/password authentication, a second step of passcode entry is required. The passcode is sent via text message, voice call, or by app, and it is an added layer of protection. With every new device, the log-ins require a passcode. As a result, even if a hacker obtains your username and password, your account will still be safe.

We strongly encourage all users to enable this feature. For more detailed information on two-step verification, please visit www.google.com/landing/2step/. As always, if you have any questions, please contact IT Help at it-help@mtu.edu or call 7-1111.
